Swedish Environmental Research Institute that carries out research and consulting projects on environmental issues
IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute was jointly founded in 1966 by the Swedish state and national business interests to carry out research on industrial air and water issues. Today we are an environmental agency concentrating on much more. It is common for our assignments to focus on interaction between ecological, economic and social perspectives.
IVL has a wide environmental profile. We combine applied research and development with close collaboration between industry and the public sphere. We provide evidence-based consulting service, and our research is characterized by interdisciplinary science and system thinking.
We employ 300 engineers, behavioral scientists, chemists, marine biologists, biologists, political scientists, journalists, business developers and economists. We also possess specialist skills as close to a third of our employees have doctorates.
We regard the EU area as our domestic market, with a particular focus on the Baltic region. Outside Europe, we work primarily in China, where we have had presence for over 25 years with two subsidiary companies established in Beijing and Tianjin. We also have an office in Wuhan. Our projects in China include: research on photochemical smog in China, joint laboratory for air quality surveillance in China, better water in Tianjin Binhai, improving people’s environmental rights in China etc..
IVL’s core values are credibility, foresight and a holistic perspective and our vision is a sustainable society. IVL is pushing the transition to a sustainable society by bringing science to society, turning environmental problems into opportunities and bending linear processes into a circular economy.
